Picasso Radio - Phone in Picasso Radio - Bob van Beuzekom - August 29th 1982 2.30-3.00 am Picasso Radio - Koninginne dag promo (The Queen's birthday) - April 30th 1982 Adam Curry gathered international fame on MTV America and with his very successful internet company. He started his career just like Jeroen van Inkel on the local hospital radio of Amstelveen and later made programs on Picasso and Decibel Radio under the alias 'John Holdon'. Later 'Curry and van Inkel' worked together on Veronica. The next jingle is Picasso 's Top Of The Hour used until the end of the summer of 1982. The first part is spoken by Adam Curry. Unfortunately the quality of this fragment is very poor. Picasso Top Of The Hour - Summer 1982 Picasso Radio used very distinct jingles. From the summer of 1982 the station had a custom made package sung by Dee Dee who in 1978 had a Top 20 hit in the Netherlands with a record called "I put a spell on you". She was an acquaintance of one of the Picasso Radio DJs. Although it might not be the slickest package you've ever heard, I think it suited the local character of the station very well and it sounded very original. Also you have to listen to it with the ears of somebody from 1982. And considering it only cost them 500 guilders (about 225 Euro) I think this package was a bargain for their format. Here are some cuts from the package: Picasso Radio 101 met muziek voor Amstelveen One of the most beautiful voices on Picasso was that of Frank Schans. He made the following promo: Artice from het Amstelveens Nieuwsblad of September 23rd on the confiscation of Picasso Radio. Picasso Radio - Acht tot middernacht promo Some Picasso jingles from a very early date Picasso Radio - Stutter Promos and other jingles Picasso Radio - 5th Birthday Promo - Sept. 5th 1982 In the almost six years Picasso Radio existed they were only raided once. This was on September 19th 1982. The DJs that were arrested were Adam Curry and Inge van Gelder. The moment the station was captured they were playing "The eye of the tiger" by Survivor, which I had requested a few minutes earlier. Two weeks later they were back, but with a much weaker signal Picasso Radio - Drama promo by Frank Schans - October 1982 After Picasso was confiscated, things were not the same anymore. In this period the government was trying to root out pirate radio, new radio laws were in the making and the Picasso Radio team was pretty shaken by all these events. They started talks with the city council to get the station legalised. To get the attention and support they, amoungst others collected signatures for a petition they wanted to give to the local council and asked listeners to put "Picasso radio leeft!" (Picasso Radio lives!) on their cars, bikes, etc. (Yes, I too painted it on my bike!!!) In his evening programm Frank Schans did "Phone outs" to people in Amstelveen to hear what their thoughts were on legalizing local radio. Picasso Radio - Frank Schans - Phone out - winter 1982/83 Finally, after a very negative documentary on pirate radio broadcasted by national television they quit on April 24th 1983 (snif) and I had to look for some other pastime on Sundays. <<< Click to read the whole article >>> Click on the headline to read the whole article. Looking back at it, I think that Picasso Radio, for all it was, the station had quite an impact on my life and boosted my enthusiasm for radio enormously and I still have very fond memories of the music Picasso played in the fabulous summer of 1982! * Toto - Africa Bron: http://www.euronet.nl/users/repflug |
